Thanks to a certain website that helped make my miles game roar, I was able to redeem my first business flight ever. While I've been optimizing free lounge visits from various credit cards (15 free visits this year), I can probably get access to this lounge once a year based on my mile accumulation history.

Like any cheap Singaporean, I wanted to get the most out of the experience. Asking those who have flown business before, the resounding advice was to arrive early to enjoy the lounge. This was precisely what I did, entering the lounge about three and a half hours before my flight at 630 am.

Getting to Singapore SilverKris Business Class Lounge Terminal 3 Changi Aiport

Pass immigration at Terminal 3, and you'll immediately see the Singapore Airline logo on the sign, alongside the other lounges. Follow them and head up an elevator and you'll be greeted by Krisflyer Gold Lounge, with a sign telling you to continue for first or business class lounge.

Not here.

You'll walk to the end of a hallway and reach the lounge. The same entrance will lead you to the Krisflyer First Lounge or The Private Room, but the one you have to go into is marked with a lit Business Class sign. A staff will check your boarding pass and point you to the correct one.

Singapore SilverKris Business Class Lounge hours

The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Business Lounge operates 24/7 round-the-clock, accommodating travelers with extended layovers who opt to stay overnight. In contrast, the adjacent SilverKris First Lounge has slightly restricted hours, welcoming guests from 5 am to 1 am.

You can technically check-in up to 24 hours before your flight and enjoy the lounge for 24 hours if you have time on your hands. Some Star Alliance boarding might only allow check-in three hours before a flight, you be sure to check before you come down.

Who gets to use the SilverKris Business Class Lounge at Terminal 3 Changi Aiport

Passengers departing on a Singapore Airlines flight in first class (+1 guest), business class, or premium economy/economy with Solitaire PPS Club or PPS Club status (+1 guest).

Passengers departing on a Star Alliance flight in first class (+1 guest) or business class. Star Alliance Gold members in other classes do not have access to this lounge; instead, they are directed to the SilverKris Gold Lounge, which offers a lesser experience.

Guests must be traveling on the same flight as the eligible passenger.

It's interesting to observe the varying policies among Star Alliance airlines regarding lounge access for Gold members. For instance, airlines like Lufthansa provide Star Alliance Gold members access to superior lounges compared to standard business class facilities.

Singapore SilverKris Business Class Lounge seating & layout

There are two main areas of the lounge. Turn left and you'll be in the larger area with the buffet. Turn right, and you will be in a smaller area with some bites and a bar or barista depending on the time.

I would get a bite in the left area before heading over to chill on the right side where it is quieter and nearer to the barista/bar. The right side also enjoys a fair bit of natural light along with high ceilings, and overall less stuffy, gloomy, and crowded.

There are some large round leather seats when you first enter that are the most popular. I wasn't shy about taking the whole thing for myself and my Rimowa Original Cabin S. Besides that, there are some communal tables in the center, four-person sofa settings, and a few private booths.

The left side is much larger and is where the buffet is. There are a variety of seating types, like high-top tables or cafe-style ones at the side. This area was clearly designed for eating, with a table height that makes it easy to do so.

I arrived at 630 am and got a decent seat, but from 7 am onwards, seats filled up pretty quickly. Because of the large space, it wasn't what I would call packed, but I've heard reports of it becoming quite the zoo towards the evening at rush hour.

Singapore SilverKris Business Class Lounge bathrooms & showers

Bathrooms are available on both the left and right sides of the lounge. They are impeccable and beautiful. Amenities like a hairdryer, shavers, and lotions were also available.

The toilets were freshly clean when I was there, as indicated by the Japanese-style triangle fold on the toilet paper. These come with a typical hand bidet that you'll find in Singaporean homes, although I thought they could easily upgrade the experience with Japanese bidets.

Showers are available too but I didn't need to try them coming straight from home.

I designed a thing.

I found a 100 year old company that would create these heirloom quality canisters for me. They are handmade and will keep your tea leaves, coffee beans or anything that you need dry for years to come.

Singapore SilverKris Business Class Lounge food & drinks

The expanse of the buffet spread is immediately noticeable when you head to the left side, especially if you are a frequent Priority Pass or Dragonpass lounge user.

The selection was very good, ranging from Asian foods like dim sum to more international ones, like waffles and scrambled eggs.

On the hot station, they serve laksa with a self-service station next to it where you can add all kinds of toppings. It's no surprise that you see this as the choice of most patrons.

A variety of cold sandwiches and desserts like muffins, or even a gluten-free assortment.

The right side has a smaller but unique selection of buffets.

But most importantly, that's where the bar/barista is at. If you are attracted by the hustle and bustle of the main buffet area, you might miss the barista.

I suspect most do, since I rarely have to wait for more than one person to get my coffee, and I see most with coffee from the machine The only odd complaint I have is that the straw they provided was way too short for the iced latte glass.

A coffee machine is available on both sides. but should only be used when the barista isn't available.

The barista is only available from 6-10 am, and the bartender from 530 pm to 1 am. Apart from those times, you are left to self-serve with the coffee machine and alcohol. This can be a little limiting and an odd one from an otherwise generous Singapore Airlines. After all, the kitchen and ground were very well staffed, with my used dishes and cups cleared within minutes most of the time.

I was impressed by the quality of food, and while they do taste better than that of lounges like Plaza Premium, it wasn't that much better that you would go “wow”. The variety and spread are definitely much more, at least twice the variety of most lounges I've been to.

Conclusion

I've heard that the lounge has been upgraded over the years and that it is the better one compared to the Krisflyer Lounge in Terminal 2. I've never experienced either, but I can imagine why. This was the best lounge I visited this year, compared to the eight other lounges I visited this year.
